The first estimate for euro area (EA19) exports of goods to the rest of the world in March 2017 was €202.3 billion, an increase of 13% compared with March 2016 (€178.9 bn). Imports from the rest of the world stood at €171.4 bn, a rise of 14% compared with March 2016 (€150.7 bn). As a result, the euro area recorded a €30.9 bn surplus

in trade in goods with the rest of the world in March 2017, compared with +€28.2 bn in March 2016. Intra-euro area trade rose to €168.1 bn in March 2017, up by 12% compared with March 2016. These data are released by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.

In January to March 2017, euro area exports of goods to the rest of the world stood at €536.5 bn (an increase of 10% compared with January-March 2016) and imports at €489.9 bn (an increase of 12% compared with JanuaryMarch 2016). As a result, the euro area recorded a surplus of €46.7 bn, compared with +€51.1 bn in JanuaryMarch 2016. Intra-euro area trade rose to €461.2 bn in January-March 2017, up by 9% compared with JanuaryMarch 2016.

European Union.  The first estimate for extra-EU28 exports of goods in March 2017 was €175.6 billion, up by 16% compared with March 2016 (€150.8 bn). Imports from the rest of the world stood at €165.1 bn, up by 14% compared with March 2016 (€144.9 bn). As a result, the EU28 recorded a €10.5 bn surplus in trade in goods with the rest of the world in March 2017, compared with +€5.9 bn in March 2016. Intra-EU28 trade rose to €303.1 bn in March 2017, +11% compared with March 2016.

 

In January to March 2017, extra-EU28 exports of goods stood at €462.5 bn (an increase of 13% compared with January-March 2016) and imports at €468.2 bn (an increase of 13% compared with January-March 2016). As a result, the EU28 recorded a deficit of €5.7 bn, compared with -€3.7 bn in January-March 2016. Intra-EU28 trade rose to €831.6 bn in January-March 2017, +8% compared with January-March 2016.
